Mitsuteru Yokoyama passed away on Apr.15. He created many famous cartoons like "Babiru II", "Mahou Tsukai Sally", "Tetsujin 28 gou (Iron Man No.28)". The new anime series of Tetsujin 28-gou have just started on TV and it is quite good quality. However before seeing their conclusion, he was unfortunately killed by fire.

There was a fire at the Yamagiwa Soft-kan in Akihabara yesterday. Although the first to the third floors were burned and there were 120 people inside a hall then, all of them escaped and there were no dead.

(From the Animaxis news letter) NHK opened Anime World NHK, the national television station of Japan that airs anime related programs on BS2 (satellite channel); such as "Eisei Anime Gekijyo" (Satellite Anime Theater), "BS Meisaku Anime Gekijyo" (BS Anime Theater of Masterworks), "BS Manga Yawa" (BS Manga Night Stories) and so on, had opened a site to introduce the latest information relating their anime titles titled "Anime World"on March 31.

The DVD box of Phan Phan Pharmacy(1998-1999) will be released in this summer at last. This anime had been well known as a masterpiece, but I suppose its peculiar way of program (combination of three animes in the same program) was an obstacle to releasing. Matsumoto Reiji demanded to stop broadcasting his newest TV series of "Captain Harlock" on Anime Theater-X. When he checked the anime before the air, he found "Star of David" on a weapon which attacks the earth.
He said "I went pale when I found it. I thought correction of the cut was not enough and I'd better stop broadcasting this work. Political, ideal, religious, and national viewpoints should be respected. This work absolutely goes against my principle."
It's true that generally Japanese creators don't take care of religious viewpoints (unbelievably, they don't have any malice in the most cases), but some have considerable insight.
The start of "Captain Harlock" is not certain now, including whether it really starts someday.

Matsumoto Reiji got a decoration (Purple Ribbon Medal) today. This decoration is given to people who have rendered distinguished service to Japan, and it's given to some cartoonists before: Akatsuka Fujio, Hasegawa Machiko, Shouji Sadao, etc. By the way, it's wonder for me that Tezuka Osamu didn't get any decorations. Maybe he refused them when he was offered informally.

"Candy Candy Trial" finished at last. The Supreme Court gave decision on Oct.25, and it was almost the same as Tokyo High Court(Mar.2000), and Tokyo District Court(Feb.1999). That means Igarashi,Yumiko lost her case at last, and it was confirmed that Mizuki and Igarashi had the same right on Candy's illustration. I don't expect their reconciliation, but I wish Candy will be saved from needless dispute.

Matsuo Ginzou (Real Name: Matsuo, Kouichi), born in 1951, met with an untimely death on Aug.25. He acted voice of Oyajide (Oja-Majo Doremi), Grandpa (Inuyasha), Biff (Scryd), etc... I haven't heard about the cause of his death.

According to Sports Nippon, Miyazaki Hayao hinted at his retirement from producing long films at the complete reception of "Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi" . He is known as a perfectionist and he said his age (60) made it difficult to treat movies. However I have heard a similar talk when he completed "Mononoke Hime", so he may go back on his word again.

Two masterpieces restarted on "Comic Bunch", a magazine founded on May.15.

Sounten no Ken (Fist of Blue Skies) : This is a sequel of Hokuto no Ken (Fist of North Star). The stage is Japan in 1935. Kasumi Kenshirou (Ryuken's brother) is a teacher of a women's college. However, his true character is En-oh, who destroyed a Shanghai mafia with bare hands. Manchurian emperor is looking for him, and he wants to make En-oh his bodyguard to protect himself from assassins of Japanese military government.
Angel Heart : This is a sequel of City Hunter. After the sudden death of Makimura Kaori, her heart was arranged for an organ transplant. But it was robbed by a crime syndicate, and transplanted to a girl. She was the strongest killer who was called "Glass Heart". However, in spite of success of operation, she hasn't rocovered her consciousness for a year. In her deep dream, a woman says "Be alive!" to her continuously....

Only I can say about Di Gi Charat Ohanami Special is "cute!". This anime succeeded to bring out cuteness in four girls again. Especially, in "Sakura Sakura" episode, they enjoyed ohanami (cherry blossom watching) and expressed a warm and comfortable mood perfectly. In addition, Petit Charat went to kindergarten, and Minataku became in the same class with Rabi en Rose. Each episode was funny and cute.

Comet-san was an old TV drama, but it's remade as an anime (^_^) Comet is a girl of Star World, but she came to the earth to look for a prince of Star World who ran into this planet. She can use magic if her magic baton is charged with power of starlight, but it rained that night and no stars were in sight. In pouring rain, she couldn't see what to do, but then, a women appeared in front of her....

The first episode of Comic Party was very funny. It was a story of a boy who was brainwashed by his bad friends (^_^; Kazuki was a ordinary high school student, but he was taken over to Ariake, an exhibition and sale of DOUJINSHI. He came there with his female friend, Mizuki, but she retired soon because it was too hot, too crowded, and too smelly (^o^; After missing her, he met a meganekko (an girl with glasses on) who was selling doujinshi, and she changed his life (^_^;;;;;

There are many digital animation, but Run=Dim is the first Japanese anime whose all characters are drawn with polygon (though Korean company produced this CG). It looked screen of video game rather than anime (^o^; The contents are space wars in the future, but it's funny that national egoism of Japan (an old country whose big cities have already gone under water for the destruction of the environment) is still highlited in such a future period.

Stories of Love Hina special (Sakura Chiru-nakare [Cherry blossoms, don't fall]; fall of cherry blossoms symbolizes failure on entrance examination for Tokyo University) were in accordance with original stories. That means, Keitaro passed the examination at last! However, he thought he must fail, so he escaped to a southern island without saying anything to anybody (He didn't know how to excuse to Naru). However, Naru went after him before the announcement of entrance examination result. Does their love come to a conclusion ? That's what you should confirm with your eyes (^_^)

It was inevitable, but the final episode of Hunter x Hunter was so unsatisfied. Because the current stories still continue on Jump magazine. In a similar case, Dragon Ball Z continued airing, but story went very slowly. Hunter x Hunter stopped gracefully to avoid the same mistake, but a sequel is seriously required in the future.

The first episode of Angelic Layer has just been aired. Overall, the quality of work is quite good, but it's a litte unfortunate that an earthquake prompt report interfered some scenes (^_^; Enomoto Atsuko acted Misaki, and I felt her voice was different from my image, but I'll get used to it soon. Icchan (Mihara Ichiro) was acted by Onozaka Masaya, and his voice was perfect (He acted Kerberos on Card Captor Sakura). Shouko ~~obasan~~-san was acted by Mitsuishi Kotono. That was unexpected cast but she did a good work.

Daichi Akitaro's new OVA work, Kuromi-chan may be marked by its strong individuality. Kuromi-chan finds work with an anime studio, but it's much harder than she's expected.... This is the first "anime-making anime" as far as I know. So it may be a new bible next to Otaku no Video. It will be released on March 30.

Touch - Cross Road - Kaze no Yukue was aired. It's incredible, but the style of Touch has not changed, though more than ten years has passed since TV series finished. In addition, OP and ED songs of TV series were used as BGM. It's absolutely wonderful for old fans (^_^) Uesugi Tatsuya joined an American AA baseseball team, Greentown Emeralds. It was a small and weak team, but they changed after they knew the dissolution of the team. Minami didn't go with him, and worked as an assistant of a cameraman. How do they feel the separation? That's the main theme of the story.
