TV Azteca, one of two TV networks in México, scheduled off anime from saturday and sunday grids. Only reamins the Disney Club and classic animation of the WB studios. The anime that was runned (Sailor Moon, Magic Knight Rayearth, Captain Tsubasa J, Slam Dunk, and Yaiba), after suffering an irregular schedule caused by the sports and special events transmissions, was subtituted by animation movies. The first was MKR's OVA Rayearth, after Sailor Moon R, and later, only movies whit poor quality made by Goodtimes from the Disney's sucessfull titles. Also, St. Tail is reruned, again, after the 40 episode, and one more time, do not informed about the last 3 episodes.

The Mexican television channel Azteca 7 aired the first episode of "The Vision of Escaflowne" on Sunday, the 7th, at 11:00AM US CST. Also, at 10:30AM US CST the first episode of Magic Knight Rayearth was shown. I believe the episode was from the television the series, not the OVA.

A lot of new animes are on Saber Marionette J, St. Tail. Again "The vision of Esclaflowne" was cut and we could not see the two last visions. I hate TV azteca. There is a rumor that they are going to show the three Ovas of Rayearth on TV azteca

"Dragon Ball Z" reported the highest viewer ratings ever for a Cartoon here in Mexico. It reached almost 9 million viewers (8.7 points, the Final match of the France 98 Soccer World Cup got 37 points). Other anime shows aired in Mexico, like Ghost Sweeper Mikami, Bt'X and Sailor Moon S (4th re-run); are far behind, though. Nevertheless, those rating proved Anime is getting more popular, and that may drive networks to acquire newer series.

Dragon Ball Z ended succesfully on September 2th, two years after it first began. Now Televisa is rerunning the Buu´s saga... There are strong rumors of DBGT being shown first on videos and then on cable Tv... if Televisa airs it, it must be until January, when the rerun ends. There is also a confirmation of Neon Genesis Evangelion being shown by Tv Azteca, which finally is airing the popular series of Meitantei Conan (once shown on Sunday mornings-- at 6 am. Nobody could enjoy it ´til now...) and Kitaro.

The biggest comic publisher in Mexico, Editorial Vid, is heading towards manga, and is already publishing Magic Knight Rayearth and Sailormoon translated to spanish from the US Mixxzine compilation magazine, and Dragonball. The Dragonball comic book has to be the best Manga ever sold here in Mexico, tranlated in Mexico, uncut, has the original right-to-left reading plus the quality of paper and B&W shades are great! Other manga series recently published is Ranma1/2, translated directly from the US Viz version, uncut and with a less than average printing, due to low cost production.
Satoshi / Feb.7,1999
